OESOPHAGEAL LEIOMYOMA

This tumour of the oesophagus is very rare and it belongs to the stromal tumours of the gastro-intestinal system. The treatment of choice is the surgical resection which provides complete cure.
The prognosis of these patients depends firstly on the tumour’s size and secondly on the mitoses number and the existence of necrosis as a microscopic pathologic finding of the surgical specimen.
