ECHINOCOCCUS OF THE LUNGS
This benign disease which in some cases, fortunately rarely, behaves as malignant disease because of its tendency to reccur in the same lung or elsewhere in the chest and the abdomen, has become a very rare condition in our country.
The treatment of the lung echcinococcus cyst consists of the cyst resection. There is no need to remove any functioning lung parenchyma. Some pathologists who deal with parasitic diseases recommend preoperative and or postoperative medical treatment with the administration of anti- echcinococcus medication for a period of two (2) months. In case of multiple echcinococcus cysts of the lung and the abdomen, it is mandatory to treat the patient by the administration of medication prior to the surgical treatment and sometimes for a long period of time.
