ACUTE MEDIASTINITIS

Acute mediastinitis represents a very rare, but extremely severe, pathologic condition which needs immediate treatment. It may be presented after an oesophageal spontaneous or iatrogenic rupture. Also it may appear after tracheal or bronchial rupture. Rarely may be developed as a result of stomato–pharyngeal infection.
The treatment to the acute mediastinitis necessitates very wide surgical drainage to the mediastinum and to the pleural cavity in combination with the administration of combined, wide spectrum antibiotic therapy.
